Understanding the NREMT Exam Structure

The NREMT exam is designed to assess the knowledge and skills of entry-level emergency medical technicians (EMTs) and paramedics. It consists of two main components: the cognitive exam and the psychomotor exam.

1. Cognitive Exam:

• The cognitive exam is a computer-adaptive test (CAT) that evaluates candidates' understanding of EMS care principles and their ability to apply them in various scenarios.
• It comprises between 70 and 120 questions, depending on the candidate's performance. The questions are drawn from a pool of items covering a range of topics, including trauma, medical emergencies, obstetrics and pediatrics, and EMS operations.
• Candidates have a maximum of two hours to complete the cognitive exam.

1. Psychomotor Exam:

• The psychomotor exam NREMT Practice Test assesses candidates' practical skills in performing various emergency medical procedures. It includes stations where candidates must demonstrate proficiency in tasks such as patient assessment, airway management, cardiac arrest management, and trauma care.
• Each station is graded based on specific criteria, and candidates must pass all stations to successfully complete the psychomotor exam.
