IBAN Validator
Validate an IBAN using the ISO 13616 Mod-97 checksum and read the country code and check digits.
How to use
Validating an IBAN
An IBAN starts with a two-letter country code, two check digits and up to thirty characters for the account. The Mod-97 calculation detects almost every typing mistake.
- Paste the IBAN, spaces are ignored.
- Read the result and the detected country.
- Copy the normalised number.
Frequently asked questions
What does the Mod-97 check prove?
It proves the IBAN is correctly formed. It does not prove that the account exists or is open.
Are spaces allowed in an IBAN?
Yes, printed IBANs are usually grouped in blocks of four for readability and the tool removes them before checking.
