Build a .gitignore

Tick the templates that match your project and the operating systems and editors your team uses.

  1. Select language and framework templates.
  2. Add OS, editor and secrets templates as needed.
  3. Copy or download the generated file.

Keep secrets out of Git

The secrets template ignores .env files and common key formats. Always review it before committing.

Can I combine templates?

Yes. Selected templates are concatenated with section comments and duplicate lines are removed.

Should Cargo.lock be ignored?

For applications, Cargo.lock should usually be committed. For libraries, many teams ignore it. Adjust the template to match your policy.
