Lighting and visibility also influence alignment accuracy. Shadows inside the ring can distort perception, making it difficult to judge whether the tool is centered. Bright, angled lighting eliminates ambiguity and allows finer control over tool placement. Many professionals position a secondary light source specifically to illuminate the inner band during engraving.

Finally, consistency comes with repetition. Each metal behaves differently under engraving tools—gold, platinum, and stainless steel all respond with subtle variations in resistance. Over time, engravers develop a tactile sense for these differences, adjusting pressure instinctively to maintain alignment.
